WE ADVISE YOU PRINT THIS OUT AND READ AT YOUR LEISURE 'SCRIPTSHOP' is a website dedicated purely to advertising new 'spec' feature-length screenplays to all potentially interested parties in the film and television industry. An estimated 500-700 spec scripts a week arrive on the doormat of agents, television and independent production companies in the UK. This is a lottery for the spec writer and a huge workload of reading matter for everyone else. 'SCRIPTSHOP' hopes to cut through this jungle and make life easier for the writer by giving genuinely good scripts the opportunity to be accessed by a greater number of people than ever before. Conversely the reader, be they a prospective agent or production company will see synopses of the best spec work around in a matter of minutes. We expect that only 10-15% of the work we receive will make it to the site first time, which means that whoever accesses 'SCRIPTSHOP' won't have to plough through page after page of script synopses that aren't of a high professional standard. 'SCRIPTSHOP' therefore hopes to serve the readers in the business by acting as a first stage filter. And serve the writers by having their synopsis and appraisal at the fingertips of everyone in the film and television business. Anyone can access the site free of charge, so potentially thousands of industry people will have the opportunity to read story synopses, whether it's a new production company looking for a low budget comedy to kick-start it, an established company specifically looking for an action story, or an agent looking for that hot new screenwriter. Script Selection A panel of readers will give a 'pass', 'consider' or 'recommend' grading. Only those scripts 'recommended' will be posted on site. However, on the up-side, writers of 'pass' and 'consider' category scripts will be sent a confidential critique of their work with suggestions of improvements and then if they wish to undertake any of the suggestions they can re-submit the script for a reduced fee. However, a script may only be re-submitted once. Each feature has a 50-100 word story synopsis under a genre category, a brief critical appraisal and an assessment of 1-10 for story-characters-originality-structure.. The writer's name/representative will appear below each listing along with their telephone number.(In some cases the writer may wish to be anonymous but the reader can ask for the script by e-mailing 'SCRIPTSHOP'.) If you wish to see a script simply call the writer and request it. Alternatively e-mail 'SCRIPTSHOP' and we will ask them to send it on. The writer will pay a fee for the reading and entry into the website for a period of four months, thus we hope to have a regular turnover of stories. Any production company optioning or purchasing a script they have requested from the site will pay 'SCRIPTSHOP' a one off finders fee of £200. Scripts will be professionally read by people who actively work in the business and are in a position to recommend the best scripts on to other people in the industry. (C.V.'s of current readers will always be posted on the site.) Finally 'SCRIPTSHOP' hold no rights over material. 'SCRIPTSHOP cannot be held responsible for any legal matters arising from Production Company/Writer negotiations on contracts/payments etc. Or from anyone plagiarising ideas/storylines on the site.
